I WFH for a couple of days a week.

Work pay for the broadband but no heating costs (theory is the one hour drive to work and back offsets this cost).

I get more work done as less distractions. Great to be able to start work from when I get up (usually end up starting earlier than I would if I travelled in) and fantastic if you have somebody like sky coming as you don't need to take the day off work.

I am lucky enough to have a dedicated office at home so makes it easy to differentiate between work and home life.

Downsides is the lack of social interaction which is why I wouldn't like to do it full time but a couple of days a week is fantastic.

I worked from home for 4+ years (IT Development and offshore management) and loved it.

Got more done in less time and had the flexibility of varying my hours to suit my needs.

Get up 10am, have breakfast, play a game, have lunch, carry on game, watch a DVD, have dinner ........... No I couldnt do it lol

The flexibility of varying working hours and being able to travel much less are great benefits.

I also WFH quite a lot at the moment too. I'm a mobile based worker so can be at home for months at a time or out on site. I absolutely love it and been doing it on and off for 6 months now. I can pop out to the gym, meet up with friends for lunch then just work a bit later. I don't think you have to have a dedicated work space although it does help. It's not disruptive to your family either unless you live with your parents, are married and have kids!!

I also get an allowance towards my broadband which more than pays for it so that is nice too.

My wife got a promotion and a payrise, part of the job is the ability to work from home. They gave the crappy old latop with the battery held in place with tape. And the oldest mobile i've seen in a long time. I expected the laptop to be wireless, however she now leaches off my broadband

If you live with your parents, are married and have kids then your life is one gigantic fail anyway and the only home working you will be doing is coming up with new schemes to convince the dole that you are looking for work.

Ultimately, no-one trusts anyone else who opts to work from home. My advice - avoid WFH wherever possible, but especially on Fridays. This really seems to wind people up.

Work from home on a Tuesday. NO-ONE will see it coming, and they'll be completely flummoxed as to how to communicate with you, because this is generally the busiest day of the week.

Apologies for the slight derail here, but it seems the original question has been answered so what the hell.

This government is keen on WFH because it gets all the evil nasty cars off the road which emit OMG CO2 and so on, but what do you reckon is worst, the CO2 and pollution emitted by making everyone commute or the CO2 and pollution emitted by heating everyone's homes that would normally be unoccupied and unheated for that portion of the day. I imagine heating up a big office is a lot more efficient than heating up each of your employees homes individually.
