Is it worth the money?

Up to £60 cashback at the moment, plus British Gas have a month free if you sign up before the end of Feb. I'm in a new build and the warranty ran out in December and I'm due a boiler inspection so I thought I'd look into a piece of mind option.

I have had it for 2 years now and going into the 3rd year.

Never had to use it bar the free boiler "service" purely for piece of mind.

The boiler is getting onto 7 years old now (i think)

into my 2nd year now and used it 3 times on a new boiler (new build so...yeah). Worth it just for the peace of mind (and for how shocking the heating systems have been installed in some of the houses)

How new is new? And which warranty? Warranty on the boiler? I didn't realise this at 6 months ago but I moved into my place when my house was 11 months old. I joined Homecare (and other services each year) but on my last service the guy explained most boilers have 5 year warranty on most parts and all I needed was a annual service and boiler cover was a waste of time.

Might be worth checking with the boiler manufacture what warranty is on it. A service is cheaper than a annual repair plan. Unless you want all the extra's like drain cover, electrics etc. Though a lot of home insurances policies cover those already.

It was built mid 2014, I moved in December. I mean the warranty with the developer, and tbh I've no idea what warranty is on the boiler.

With some boiler warranty though if you log a fault and the fault is with the system, not the boiler, they will charge you for the call out. That's the case with ours.

With cashback homecare comes to just over £100 a year.

If you stick the cash in the bank, you'd still need to pay out for an annual service which is around £80.

I'm still down as a customer on the BG system till the 22nd as I had my boiler inspection with them last year. I'll sign up once that's closed down.

I think you misinterpreted his comment. The point he's making is that if you put £100 in the bank you'd probably only end up with £25 after a year assuming you paid for a service.

Yup. For our less than 10 year boiler we have a call out probably every other year and on the last occasion several parts needed replacing costing in excess of £250. So on average expect to pay over £250 for issues in a 10 year period.
