Homemade doner kebab recipe?

So what's in the salad, white cabbage, lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumber and then you have the sauces, so chilli sauce, yoghurt and Tahini(whatever that is), is that(apart from the lamb) and bread.

Also what's difference between pita and naan bread?

The two are very different. Pita is small and thin. Naan is thick and very doughy, much better if you like a lot of sauce on like me.

Naan is Indian and is often made with yoghurt and cooked in a tandoor oven. Resulting in a thicker, fluffier and 'doughier' texture, with a smokey flavour.

Pita is Mediterranean, and is crisper and thinner, without yoghurt and traditionally baked in a stone oven like normal bread.

Tried it,very authentic! The cumin is the key to it. I would say forget about the tahini and also yoghurt is optional.

Gave a homemade kebab a go and just had it for tea:

400g Lamb mince
Tsp Cumin
Tsp Thyme
Dried chili flakes
A few cloves of garlic
Puréed onion (I just cut it up and put it through a garlic press)

I mixed it all together well and squashed 2x the above into one mince tray (removing the paper bit at the bottom) and covered with cling film in the fridge for 24 hours.

I couldn't be bothered with any fancy, so just cut the loaf up into portions (ending up with essentially a thick slice of loaf) and ovened it. Once cooked, I sliced it up as best I could and put in pitta with lettuce and garlic mayo (mayo, garlic, salt).

Really nice; I'm not one for the elephant leg kebabs, but like them when done properly.

In terms of cost, 2x400g lean lamb mince was 2 for £6 and the other costs are negligible really. I cut mine up into 4 portions, which would do 3 or 4 pittas with plenty of salad. Not the same quantity as a kebab shop, but sufficient IMO and much nicer. Quite filling too.

Nice. I had my first sober doner (on a naan) in about 10 years the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it, so this will get a try at some point.

Gonna have to make my own one day aswell.

Not home made i know but Farmfoods sell sliced kebab meat in a pack and its actually quite nice...but dont cook it like they tell you too in the microwave or it will be chewy,I cook it in a frying pan with a knob of butter and its lovely...tender and tasty.
