Excuse me if this is a stupid question...

But bought some TP Link passthrough home plugs. AV600, so rated to 600mbps
But they have a 10/100 mbps ethernet port on them?

I live in a new build so should be modern, decent wiring - but getting max 55ish MBps (wifi showing 180...)

Rubbish plugs or is the ethernet port limiting the speed?

All homeplugs are garbage, I don't really know how they get away with selling 600Mbps models and shoving 100Mbps ethernet ports on them though.

Return them if you can, seems like a pretty straightforward case where they'd never be able to perform as advertised.

if they truly do have 10/100Mbps ports on them that means the max speed you should be able to attain from those plugs is 12.5MBps

You said you're getting 55ish MBps ? That would equate to 440Mbps Which is pretty decent.

Apologies, 55mbps - about 7MBps

I have Netgear PLP1000 and get almost 200mbps out of them but I'm only using them between 2 back to back rooms.

Using Tenda AV1000 kit, to give my boy a wired connection to his PC (concrete walls + Fortnite mad autistic child = Frequent meltdowns over "Laaaaaagggg!", despite a decent WiFi card)

12ms ping & 60/10Mb stable, consistent speeds - although we've a tiny place and a recent rewire (his PC is roughly 5m from the router, so not a massive amount of wiring to send ones and zeroes over).
He's not complained since.

Ahh okay. Well if it means anything to you i've got devlo 1200+ powerlines and those have Gigabit ports on them. In the same room going from one side where the Modem + router is to the otherside where my AP is, which is just setup for wifi and also connecting the TV via ethernet. Through this, I can only attain a max speed of 90Mbps. Despite being able to get 370Ish from the router.

So even with high end plugs i can't get over 100Mbps. So personally if you're getting those speeds over your plugs i would say that's decent for the price of those plugs.

The thing is about powerlines is they are better than wifi because i get constant 90Mbps and a much lower ping than i do over wifi. Wifi can vary, somtimes i can hit nearly 90Mbps next to the AP othertimes around 60-70 or even lower at bad times but at higher pings.

However, you cannot beat just pure ethernet/networking cabling. I mean you could spend a pretty penny and get some decent APs like ubiquity ones but if you're going to spend that sort of money then just pay some one to cable your house up.

sorry rambled on abit.
