Homosexuality

That's ridiculous. I prefer to have sex with women over men. Hence it is my sexual preference. I didn't choose to prefer women, but the fact still remains that I would rather have sex with a woman than a man.

I dont think you quite got it. say for instance, your born with blonde hair and blue eys. They as such are born homosexual, not something that develops from experiences, or something they choose to be. When they discover their homosexuality, they merely uncover it, not make the choice. Its something they ARE. Its a hard view to get to grips with. Its not a choice they make, and therefore for them is not a prefence.

Yep, choosing what you prefer doesn't make your actual preference a choice.

I think that same principle of evidence holds true for nearly all arguments!

Personally I would be surprised if it were not a genetical 'trait', as I don't really understand how environmental influences could change such a core part of being human/dog/rabbit/lesser spotted weavil or whatever you are.
Environmental influences are a bit more complex than they initially appear, for example if there was a higher concentration of a particular hormone during pregnancy, that would be classed as an environmental influences, environmental influences can occur prior to birth. :)

My personal belief is that it's a bit of both, I think there's probably a genetic element defining susceptibility, with environmental influences thrown in there too, however there is no doubt in my mind that it is not a 'choice'..(that is simply being attracted to the other sex, rather than the lifestyle which has grown around it)

thats self contradictory. your almost there. The fact its something they are, and not something they chose means it wasnt a choice, and therfore not a prefernce as they didnt choose, sort of like genes.

But they still prefer to have sex with men. They prefer to have sex with men because they are attracted to them. It's still a choice to be actively homosexual, as in actually having relationships with people of the same sex.

Think of this analogy. I prefer chinese food to indian food because I like the taste of chinese food more. I never decided one day that I'd like chinese more, I just do. It's still my preference.

yes, but they chose to be sexually active. They ARE, not choose to be gay. They have sex with mean because they are attracted to them, No preferring.

you werent born preferng chinese food to indian, its somethign you developed after trying both. They didnt have sex with a woman and then a man, and like the homosexual sex more.

This is going to go round in circles, just like my philosophy lessons do. lol :p

I'm just saying they prefer to have sex with men because they are attracted to them. The fact that they are attracted to them is the reason for their preference.

like i sed this will go round in circles. To some homosexual people, their sexuality is not a preference, they dont prefer to be gay than straight its something they are/ cant help( not that its a problem). Fini. we'll agree to disagree :p

Scientists Trying to "Cure" Homosexual Sheep

A row has broken out over attempts by researchers at Oregon State University and Science University in Portland to turn a homosexual sheep into a heterosexual sheep. 1 in 10 rams prefer other rams. This research is aimed to improve farm productivity.

The researchers located the part of the brain influencing the sexuality of gay rams and then monitored the area using electrodes while they tried different hormonal treatments. They report having "considerable success".

The research has outraged both animal and gay rights groups with the former complaining of cruelty and the latter claiming the knowledge could be used to "cure" or prevent homosexuality in humans.

Maybe if asked for a sexual preference the options should be men/women/either rather than homo/hetero/bi.
