Hi guys im hoping to get my Sky BB activated some time this month *sigh* so in my boredom thought id read up on improving connections. Downloaded SSID to see how cluttered the 2.4ghz channels were

looking at this im still not sure what would be a good channel to use?

anyway as there is absolutley NO usage of the 5ghz channels I thought id get a wireless N 5ghz router to plug into the Sky modem when i get it.

Problem is my gf's laptop is wireless G. - Would it be possible to plug in a wireless N router into the Sky wireless G router and have both running in tandom? seems like a cheaper option than buying a simultaneous dual channel router if it works that is.

all i have to do is hardwire my laptop and have my wireless N lappy and the gf's wireless G lappy.

anyone tried this?

thanks

dont see why not, switch of DHCP and use the secound G router as an access point only (plug the cable into a normal port not the wan ports on both ends).

Make sure you set both routers to have the same network ID and subnet mask.

i.e. Have the G router set to 192.168.1.1 and the N router set to 192.168.1.2 for example.

inSSIDer looks to be a cracking program though. That channel usage graph looks handy.

Yup, just whack a cable between the two APs LAN port to LAN port, disable DHCP, set up as above. Job done.

Suggested channel based upon that output is probably 9-14 as the networks that end are less strong and less likely to interfere.

Just to clarify, I turn off DHCP on the Sky router? (this will be plugged direct into the phone line) or do i turn off DHCP on the wireless n router that will be plugged into the sky router as an access point?

Turn off the DHCP on the one you will be using as an access point.

You only ever want one DHCP device on a network, otherwise it will cause havoc!
