Hooking up

That's not really a fair reflection of 90s internet in that video though is it. And anyway put those kids back in the 90s their interest would most likely very much lie outside the net, as it was only a niche thing back then.

We didn't really get dial up until Freeserve was a thing as it was too expensive. Once we did though... wasted my youth playing Red Alert and AoE with my mates from school. Anyone remember the phrase LPB (Low Ping ********)? Remember trying Half Life Deathmatch and Unreal Tournament, only my pings were massively higher than the pros.

It's true the Internet isn't what it once was. I was bullied constantly at school and jumping on to IRC just to chat to fellow nerds kept me going. When MSN messenger came along the Internet really became more mainstream. Now the nerds are as cliquey as the' cool' groups!

Looking forward to having conversations with the future grandkids about a world with four channel TV and no Internet in the same way I'd talk to my grandparents about being evacuated during WWII!

Yeah; using a 2400 baud modem to connect to bulletin boards was mucho fun. I still cannot believe I managed to get on BTs trial for 512kb/s ADSL in early 2000. What a day to unplug my USR 56k modem and hook up the Alcatel green stingray thing! After the BT engineer departed I then spent blimmin ages getting the modem recognised and drivers to work in FreeBSD.

I remember first going online after my broadband installation and feeling happy that I didn't have to wait 5 minutes to discover whether she was a genuine woman or a shemale.

Back in the day everyone was shemale. Had a friend who loved to send round pictures of women in various states of undress. Thanks to the magic of slow dial-up the picture would take a while to download, so you were at first excited, then terrified as the bottom half of the picture loaded.

Couldn't wait to get out the house back in the day!
