As an Opteron 175 should be with me tommorow, hoping for minimum of 2.6 ghz prime stable, although more would be very nice ;) some Corsair XMS PC4000 is coming to help it along too.

Place your bets as to what I can expect on air...

I have downloaded the patches for dual core and XP .. what order do I need to install them ?

I would expect from what I have heard for you to get at least 2.6ghz from it with 2.8ghz+ being what you want to aim for.

I also didn't need to install any patches for windows. I think they are more for if you get a problem.

The M$ Hotfix might be worth installing even if you don't NOTICE any major problems. It cures performance problems that you may or may not know you even have.

I would take anything over 2.7Ghz as a nice bonus.

Interesting thing about installing the 'fixes' for dual core.....i ghosted my hard drive prior to install of my Opty 170....then on one drive i loaded the AMD dual core driver and MS hotfix. On that drive, with the latest COD2 patch, the game will lag, until i manually assign affinity to one cpu.....now, yesterday, i plugged in the ghost'd drive and just let XP pick up the 'multiprocessor'. No fixes, no patch and COD2 is smooth as silk!

That Corsair didn't like my set-up, couldn't run it at 3-4-4-8 1T (2.6-2.8v)

Get that RAM stable before you think of overclocking the CPU.

And make sure you do some decent testing before you post back saying things like "wOOt I can do 3GHz with 1.3vCore" :p

Screenshots speak a thousand words!

What mobo is that on Big.Wayne ?
As a matter of course I always memtest new memory at its rated speeds before any overclocking, perhaps you have a duff stick ? I know Corsair have excellent back-up so it could be worth you heading to their forums and posting.

I actually assumed this memory was meant to be 1T ... not wise I know, just didn't think about it ! /me heads off to check :o

As for CPU .. well thats what prime is for :)

Have you tried running the memory with manual voltage set at 2.6v ?
I have seen a couple of posts mentioning it doesn't like voltages above this ...

Of course! I spent 12 hours very carefully going through the variables, it was just having none of it. Also it peaked at about 270MHz 1:1 nowhere near the 290MHz shown on anandtech (cherry-picked no doubt).

Won't be buying Corsair again in a rush, same thing happened when I bought my first set of OCZ? Only Memory that has worked wonders for me is Crucial Ballistix, my 1GB PC3200 set is happily running 275MHz 1:1 3-3-3-8 (thats PC4400 speeds!).

Oh well, was just a thought :(

Odd that you mention that ... I have used OCZ and Corsair before with no problems at all, but when I tried ballistix it was terrible stuff, wouldn't even do its rated timings.

You might find if you contact Corsair they will refund you, or replace with something that works on your board FOC ... they are meant to be very helpfull ..

Fingers crossed they like my board .. I just checked and they have been tested on it, but there is no mention of if it was @ 1T or not ..

Ermm .. nope lol. I thought that was all you needed to tell :)
One things for sure ...1.47v isn't enough to get it too windows at 2.75 :(
And I can't run T1 @ 250 ... but i think thats a known issue with this board ... likre the variable vcore .. atm dancing from 1.4 to 1.49v  what does the MSI Nforce 4 ultra board (the non SLi one, on overclockers site) overclock like ?
Might get a decent overclocking board, but don't want to go DFI for several reasons.

Currently priming @ 240x11 with max voltage available (showing in Asus probe as varying between 1.41~1.49) prime testing both cores just over an hour done so far. (T2 on the mem though :()
Temps are sitting @ 55-56 with the max heat and power consumption prime test running on both cores ... not sure if thats good/bad or indifferent ?

Thats with Zalman 7000 all copper cooler.

I proclaim it stable enough for me @ 2.6 .. well 2640 actually but as I like round numbers its going to sit @ 2.6 ... an FX60 for £360 notes ... I am a happy bunny :D

In all honesty you should have saved yourself the money and went for the 170 over the 175.
