Horizontal waves down screen

I've got a Powercolor 7850 and I'm using the latest window 8 drivers.

I've tried 2 monitors and both have the same issue when plugged into the dvi slot via the dvi - vga connector. Whenever the monitor goes to sleep and then comes back on or if I'm playing a game, horizontal wave like patterns scroll down the screen, for example on the post reply screen the dark blue background has waves but the light post box doesn't.

The card isn't overclocked, although the cpu is overclocked but I don't think this would have any effect on it?

If it happens in and out of windows (bios) likely be the graphics card on the way out.

It doesn't happen in the bios or to the other screen that is connected via hdmi. It also doesn't seem to happen when the computer is just booted up, only once I start to play a game or the computer goes to sleep and comes back on?

I changed the d-sub lead and re inserted the dvi converter and the issue seems to be gone now.

Seems it was a faulty connection / connector.
