I am looking to make a website for my mums shop and i dont really now how to go about hosting it. I have made a website using Serif WebPlus 10 SE and now i need to host it.........Whats the best way to do this? Can i do it at home?

You upload the .html files (or whatever) you have created to your area on the hosting companies server. Any files in this folder will be shown on the Internet, with the index named page being the homepage.

So on vidahost i order say the basic package and a domain then i upload the code or?? how does it work?

yes, buy a domain name
buy some hosting

you will then get FTP details of where you can FTP your files too
upload them to your FTP area

your site should then be visible

Ok....Cheers guys......So vidahost the best to go with?
Assuming it's a single website which won't be very demanding in terms of disk space and bandwidth, which it doesn't sound like yours will, then their basic package (£17pa) will do everything you need, with better support than you will get anywhere else.

GoDaddy are another good web host.
No they're not.

there are a few threads on recommended hosting

vidahost is always highly recommended

their service is superb

Cheers guys.....Im thinking of making my own website but not looking to pay for a program so can anyone recommend any free good website making programs?
I do have the code from my mate though but i want to have a go myself

GIMP and NVU are good free programs.

So GIMP to make the template of your site, NVU to code it and Filezilla to FTP it up on the server.

Or use notepad++ to code it ... Tutorials can be found here: http://www.w3schools.com/
