I have been looking for software for a while now that will monitor my system temps ands make it possible to quickly change fan speeds as i have a very noisy but excellent delta case fan which is annoying when watching films! i managed to come across some software calle speedfan now its telling me that one of my coresin my processer is running at 53 degress c the other cores is at 35 degrees c but my overall CPU temp is 19 degrees have i installed my fan wrong or my paste wrong or somet lol. in the bios its elling me that my cpue is 20 degrees which one really matters?

Thankyou

Its telling me 48 degrees core 0 and 38 degrees core 1 now is that ok or is that hot its on 0% load by the way. I dont understand why in the BIOS its telling me my CPU temp is 22 degrees lol but there is such a big difference??

Try not to get too hung up about your core temperatures. Intel have admitted that the sensors that measure the core temperatures are rubbish and that is probably why you are seeing such a difference in your core temperatures.

As far as I know just try and keep your cpu temp as reported by your bios and speedstep at less than 60 degrees C.

Try checking your temps at full load, run prime or Orthos.

It could be your bios is incorrectly reading the sensors, running the latest bios?

Also depends which sensor the BIOS is reading. There were three in the E6xxx chips, and I assume there are still in the E8xxx chips. One of them (the one usually read by the BIOS) typically reads 10-15C lower than the sensors read by Speedfan.

Differences between the two cores at equal load can be put down to the cheap thermal sensors, or can indicate uneven heat dissipation - which could be due to either the thermal interface between the IHS and die, or the thermal interface between the IHS and heatsink, or both. Some difference is perfectly normal. My Q6600 produces differences of around 5C between the hottest and coolest core.

You're not alone. My 8400 is reporting 64 idle 70 load with Coretemp & the bios says 27 idle. But it seems to be running OK if Coretemps readings are correct & that's all I care about TBH.
