Can we hotlink to like BBC, or at least reputable websites?

I thought the thinking behind no hotlinking is because in the early days of the internet, the host will remove the picture, and replace it with a penis.

Hot-linking the BBC's still isn't allowed on this site but it's ok on WhatsApp and Signal. Images need to be re-uploaded to a hosting site like Imgur, or on your own ISP-provided webspace but I don't think personal ISP webspace is a thing any more? It is still hot-linking though whatever site the image is hosted on. It's simply the fact that an image off-site has been embedded into a forum post or a WhatsApp/Signal post.

Some forums allow image attachments so that they're hosted inside of the forum software. I guess the Dons here turned it off to keep the forum's file size down which is fair enough
