Hotel Complaint

I would expect at least vouchers for the same stay at the hotel or a free meal or something. Not that you would want to eat there or stay there again. But they could have done something like that, but if they did it would be accepting liability then they are opening themselves up to law suits.

Well actually it is more probable that you picked up an infection from the environment. A friend of mine did a study several years ago. She swabbed toilet cisterns in hotel, bar and restaurant toilets. Something like 9/10 had traces of E.coli

As others have said if it was the food then there would have been an outbreak among the other guests.

Those statistics are borderline irrelevant as you are exposed to hundreds of different things like that every day, everywhere you go. The world is not a clean place.

Agree...

To add to it though... The OP could have picked up something 24/48 hours before visiting the hotel which might not have presented symptoms until the day after he ate the seafood, thus leading him to believe that was the cause.

Sometimes it can take long incubation periods for symptoms to be presented (equally, it can take a lot less time as well).

A goodwill gesture doesn't mean they accept it is their fault. It is just a gesture of good will... Nothing more, nothing less... You could be completely in the wrong and a company might still give you a gesture of good will.

Look on the bright side... at least your neighbour isn't using your wheelie bin.

& there's no way of proving it's the hotel at fault.

Why is everyone out to get "compensation" for things?

Christ you got ill for some reason, get over it! there are a lot of other people worse off in the world.

Worst "I stayed at a 5* Hotel and noshed on some dodgy herring kebab, now want free stuff" thread ever.

This is the reason why i sleep in cardboard boxes and never stay in 5 star hotels...

(might not be the real reason)

I'm confused. Why would you expect anything more than a 'get well soon'? Unless perhaps you're a very frequent customer/gold card member or something

I'm not sure I see your point. The OP is asking what you would expect. Are you saying you would have expected a gesture of goodwill?
