Hotmail problem

Hi peeps,

I’m in the process of Googling this at the moment, but just in case someone has had the problem, I thought I would post anyway.

A friend of mine called me a couple of night back after having problems with his Hotmail account – he had lost all messages and apparently people he knew had started getting odd messages from him; I got him to download and run Malwarebytes and advised him to then go and change his passwords to online accounts.

Last night I connected into the machine remotely after he mentioned he still had problems with emails, I installed my usual apps and ran updates here and there and let both Malwarebytes and Avast run full scans – nothing found; I even checked all running processes and all the different startup options for anything out of the ordinary (same goes for services) and flushed out all temporary data.

He’s just called again to say that if he gets and email sent to him he gets nothing, but he can send them out, if someone then replies to his message he’ll get that ok

Now, I only use Hotmail for junk really, so don’t know all the options and things it offers, but I’m hoping that whatever had his account has simply loaded a filter of sorts or something, even though this still seems illogical to me.

Anyone got any tips? I’m pretty sure that the PC is now virus and malware free, he’s changed the account password a couple more times, but still has problems…

Thanks guys!

Long shot but maybe try changing the password on the account he has verified his hotmail account with as well as changing the hotmail password.

If he hasn't verified the account then do so now.

I wasn't aware you had to do this? I have used Hotmail for many years and don't recall ever doing this - worth a shot I guess though, thanks.
