Microsoft is overhauling its free webmail service, dropping the Hotmail name it has used since acquiring the product in 1998, and renaming it Outlook.com.

The revamped service will help sort messages as they arrive and allow users to make internet calls on Skype.

It said the move would help tackle the problem of "cluttered" inboxes.

The move may also be designed to win over users of Google's rival Gmail service.

www.outlook.com

Just signed up...looks quite nice.

hotmail.com still works :p

edit: meh, it did until I opened outlook.com :/

edit2: Ha, it's ridiculously broken in Opera.

They must be bored at Micro$oft Towers - why not leave it alone?

You are only going to make it worse and probably open it up to hackers who will download all the User Ids again as they did some years ago - MORONS!

it seems to of integrated with windows 8 pretty well I think. im assuming my email addresses will keep working, but I could also get a @outlook.com one too?

They're ramping up for the release of win8, combining stuff, shuffling stuff. Skydrive is getting a supposedly big update before the release as well.

I don't get it, go to outlook.com and it just shows my hotmail inbox.

On the sign up page it just throws me a message saying 'The phone number that you entered isn't valid in this country/region. Enter a different one.' despite the fact that the phone number is indeed, valid.

Pile of poo. I'll stick with Gmail.
