House clutter

It seems to be this 'nesting' instinct that woman have.

She is already hoarding over here, and I try to generally live a clutter free life.

I think most people suffer from this in the modern age.
I take the following approach and do it on a room by room basis.
I go into each room, and go through each cupboard, shelf, etc and things either stay if I am using it recently, or it gets put in one of the following boxes.
Box for bin, box for sell, box for charity, box for not sure. The box for not sure sits in another room for 2 months, then go back to it and the info in there needs to go into one of the other boxes.

It takes time and slowly reduces stuff. Only bad thing is dealing with the human race when selling things online, so now most things i just give to charity.

If you haven't used it in over a year then I'd put it on the get rid pile if you still don't need it a month later get rid.

Mrs and I have been de-cluttering since we moved to our new place 2 years ago. It's amazing what you keep without even realising it. Every month or so, we cull a load more stuff.
Only had a couple of moments where I binned something that I needed a little while later.
We never seem to totally de-clutter, but it helps us keep on top of it.
Kids toys are the worst, they end up everywhere :(

look at each item and ask yourself "have i used this in the past 7 years", if the answer is no then keep it another 7 years just in case

This!

I've moved house twice with some boxes I've not even unpacked. Lots of rubbish that I've not touched for 10 years :(

Slowly started to go through the boxes one at a time throwing out parts, but as above it's cables and parts and boxes I think I might have a use for. Why would anyone want the box for a GPU from 2009?

Just leave your door unlocked and go away for the weekend. Should clear out a decent amount of junk. You might even come back and find your place has been converted into a squat, that's win win, not only have you decluttered, you no longer have the possibility of relapsing and filling your house up with crap again, you know, because you're now homeless.

it really depends if its actually useful stuff?
just the last few days i have used some parts to build some stuff - parts that have been sat for at least 5 years and would have cost me money to replace.

Moved out last July. In packing my stuff I justified almost everything. Moved into my house which didn't have as much storage as my parents, but squeezed it all in. Basically cluttered my house from the start.

Realised the error of my ways and last December I said anything I haven't seen/ worn/ used since moving in would be thrown. 90% of it went.

House looks better for it and I feel better. Haven't missed anything I've thrown out.

I hate clutter. But I found it a great predictor for whether my wife was brooding for more children. Whenever she was, she started clearing things out and painting the house
