House-Hunting Help!

My experience of financial advisors tied to estate agents is worse than that. The financial advisor of the estate agent I bought my house through decided to try and get his commission by telling me that I could only have the house I wanted if I went with him for the mortgage! I obviously complained and he no longer works there. I think he saw I was a first time buyer and thought I was a soft touch.

I also agree that you should put an offer in on the place that you liked.

If I had seen a property that gave me 'that' feeling even if it was number one I would have started the purchase process you can always pull out if you find something better I would rather not risk missing out on the one!

Nothing against you, but this is what is entirely wrong with the way houses are sold in England, it is an awful system! You can pull out at the last minute, same for the seller, or ask for more money/items, it's terrible.
Bought and sold houses in England - awful ordeal. In the States, it's a contract you enter from the moment you offer, same goes for the seller. Offered and completed within 25-30days usually :)

Tell them to do one. The estate agents get referral bonus' when they introduce the client to the mortgage broker. If you have no joy then knock on the door of the house you want to view and tell them you have not been able to due to the estate agent. Your funds/financial situation are of no concern to the estate agent and your proof of an offer in principle shows that you are serious and meet the basic requirements to secure a mortgage.

If I was using this agent and found out they were doing this I'd be finding a new company to market my house.

Agree 100%.

Correct me if I am wrong, but similar rules apply in Scotland as they do in the States. It's how it should work, if you are going to put in an offer on the house, then you will have considered your move carefully so that there should be no regrets or backing out of the deal.

Saying all that, I am viewing a house on Sunday that is already under offer and has been accepted! I feel a bit bad about this, because I know if somebody did that to me then I would be rather annoyed about it! Not to mention the nerves....

Had the meeting today. We politely attended but really it was just a meeting to try to sell us financial services, he didn't even approve the fact that we could afford the houses we wanted to view. Bit of a joke really and a collossal waste of time.

Seen about 10 more houses since and the second one I viewed is always the one I am comparing everything to. Am going to book a second viewing with a view to putting in an offer. Exciting times.
