House infested with large spiders

I felt some remorse for killing a spider yesterday. :( He was right by my bed, which is also next to the window, he was catching flies for me with his web, he looked quite friendly to be honest. R.I.P Spider. (There was a satisfying 'pop' though I might add).

Haven't seen that many recently, but I did saw a lot around April time.

I wish we had an infestation of spiders in our house right now.
Seems there's some dead pigeon or something in the chimney and we're getting loads of flies coming through the fire place.

And unfortunately turning the fireplace on doesn't deter them.

If I see a big spider in the house I feel like killing it

If I see a ladybird in the house I don't

Why?

i think large spiders can sometimes find their way down the chimney from birds dropping them?? this is what I have suspected in the past but I might be wrong :D

I came across similar to that whilst moving boxes in my loft ,they all ran off in different directions

If your house has concrete floors like mine you seldom get spiders ,except the loft ;)

if I saw that in my house I would declare war :D

is that a picture from the UK?

Because spiders are the spawn of Satan and will quite happily eat your face while you sleep. Ladybirds on the other hand are decorated with pretty colours and brighten up you house.

There might be something to conkers - it's a long known fact spiders avoid certain types of wood - wallnut for example.

my sis moved into a new house next to a field last year and had several 8 legged monsters in the house daily which was affecting her a lot. we got a big bag o conkers and she put them in the corners of each room and near doors. no spiders at all since! wouldn't believe it unless i saw it first hand :) . i think the conkers do eventually dry up though but these have lasted for 8 months at least so far.

When you say big, how big do you mean?

spiders are more afraid of you than you are of them :)been in this new house for 11months and we have the woods behind us and we havent seen a single spider in our house yet.if i see a spider,i gently pick them up and put them in the garden.
