House networking - Wireless signal

hi,

I'm trying to get my g/f's set up working in her house. The room she is in gets a very weak signal (despite it being in the room underneath). This results in an unstable connection to the internet. Seeing as there is a weak signal, and she can connect, is there anyway to boost this signal? Or can I buy anything to help get her connected. E.g. This device which plugs in to the socket etc.? If people could list prices that would be helpful :D.

If you use powerline you’ll have to cable up to the PC, not so good if it's a laptop. You can buy a bigger antenna for the router and the PC, lots of places have them online.
If it’s a laptop with an internal wireless card it could be a bit trickier. If it has space for a wireless card see if you can borrow one to see if that improves the connection.

On other thing could be that there are lots of other wireless signals about, try changing the station number that the wireless is working on in the routers admin page to see if that helps first.
 
or go buy a dlink ap2100+ which can operate as a range extender, access point or client. easy set up wizards
 
you could try reposistioning the router aerials.

if your above the router having them horizont may help a little due to the signal being stronger from the sides of typical aerials, it would then be more likely to penetrate the ceiling

you can get better aerials but they tend to cost as much as other solutions such as powerline/homeplug also to get the most out of them you may need to improve aerials at both ends of the conenction depending on wetehr its a receive ro transmit problem
