Hover flies planning to take over the world?

They're bothering you with good reason because you seem to be exterminating them with your car!

My car isn't hitting them, they're hitting my car.

They buzz around my pint of lager at the pub, if a person touches my pint I'll be annoyed with them so the same goes with dirty alcoholic hoverflies. I'd let them off if they bought a round once in a while.

What about bikers, how do they not get covered in dead hover flies on their helmets and outerwear?

A week or so ago I had left the living room windows open and there must have been about 40 of the buggers darting around. Then I looked out of the window and there were hundreds of them outside although they seemed to have reduced in numbers now. Mind you in saying that, there are at least eight on my bedroom ceiling as I type:eek:

Here are some pictures of the carnage (sorry phone camera pics since my dad has gone on holiday with my camera)

that's just disgusting!

Was this 50mile round trip through county lanes?

Here in Herts the population has exploded. The wasp population though seems to have plummeted.

countryish A road and dual carriageway, so most likely all happened on the A road part which is only 10 miles of the 25 mile journey!

We had literally thousands of these in a conservatory when we were down in York last week. Wasps would fly in and grab one, fall to the ground, gnaw off its head and wings and fly away with the abdomen. They are harmless but I'm a big girl when it comes to bugs so was always on edge with them flying about my head.

that look amazing! I didn't think it was going to be seriously that bad!

You know they are just trying to take us out 1 by 1, by impairing our vision as we drive!
