I'd let them off if they bought a round once in a while.
What about bikers, how do they not get covered in dead hover flies on their helmets and outerwear?
I've noticed that here as well, hundreds of the things in my garden.

A week or so ago I had left the living room windows open and there must have been about 40 of the buggers darting around. Then I looked out of the window and there were hundreds of them outside although they seemed to have reduced in numbers now. Mind you in saying that, there are at least eight on my bedroom ceiling as I type

Here in Herts the population has exploded. The wasp population though seems to have plummeted.
