They just dont look when they pull out on a large road where cars car go past easily. Worse on a bike.

Never used to have a problem lettin buses out until I realised they never and I mean never let let anyone out in front of them, even when in slow moving traffic and the could just let someone into the road infront of them.

I always let people out of junctions when I was a driver, it did depend on late-running and bus positioning etc.

Karma.

A lot of it comes from being constantly insulted and abused by passengers and other road users alike. It soon gets boring and the inclination to courtesy get harder to maintain.

Remember a bus driver is working for upwards of 10-12 hrs a day and I am sure you can imagine how much crap can be thrown at them in that time.

Bus drivers are pretty competent I find. After all, they have been driving a lot.

Any serious driving problem as suggested by the OP, would have been revealed by an accident already. Therefore, me wonders who is at fault here.

They do it because they dont look, they watch the pasenger get off, flick the door close button, whack on the indicator and stamp on the accelerator in one movement, without even flicking a glance in the offside mirror.

I know this, because I watch them in their mirror as I go past in the truck, the ones that do it dont look until they are moving off if to whether they have pulled out in front of anything.

Find the larger 'First' bus drivers ok, but through at work all the bus drivers of the small busses and firms are terrible!

Stepend or something is the worst... :( No signals, charge through any gap, etc, etc...!

Round here you sometimes get bus drivers who indicate left and stop, then as you pull out to overtake they flick the indicator to the right and start moving at the same time.

I'm not sure what "beat the bus syndrome" is. If you are never going to overtake a bus then why don't you get on the bus instead of driving behind it the whole way. It defeats the object of driving your own vehicle.

If it's safe to do so, I let buses set off. I can feel their frustration when I see 4 or 5 cars in front accelerate and overtake. The bus drivers seem to be quite grateful round here too, normally get a thanks from their window or a flash of the hazards.

Down here they are quite considerate and I've often been let out by buses, although I very rarely use the bus service so perhaps they are always late :p

Probably because you are sat too close to the bus and in the Drivers blind-spot. He is moving to allow him to see better.

Beat the Bus syndome is pretty self-explanatory.

Wrong. Do you not know the highway code? Mirror, signal then manoeuvre. Not "flick incicator from left to right while pushing the go pedal".

But also has place in your argument. Like I said, if you don't overtake busses then you might as well be on them.

Rule 223 of the highway code. Look it up, I posted it earlier also.

If you cannot see his Mirrors, then he cannot see you.

Overtake safely and within the limits of the highway code and you will not have a problem. Remember it is encumbent on you, the car driver to give way to the Bus, not the other way around.

And where exactly do you suggest I go to make myself more visible while I am on the right of the bus in the middle of my overtaking manoeuvre? - he was indicating left only a second earlier and I can see his mirrors but he moves out anyway

So just to confirm the level of intelligence of the person I am discussing this with, you think it's perfectly safe for a bus driver to flick his indicator from left to right and start pulling away all in the same moment? Just say yes so I can go to bed. :D

Confession time -

Back in 1976 I saw a bus indicating to pull out but decided not only was I going to overtake it but also turn left in front of it to go down the street.
As I was going past I had no chance of turning left but instead had to brake hard and was hit from behind.
Obviously I thought it was the bus but it was a car too close to me but the bus had braked hard causing 2 people to be taken to hospital :(
I parked up in the street that I intended to drive down and the other car parked behind me with a badly damaged front end.
The driver said he was just going to walk down the street to see if there was waste ground to put his leaking car onto.
The Cops arrived, asked where the other driver was and I ran down the street to look for him and saw him running off :)
I called the Cops and about 30 minutes later they came back with him but other Cops had arrived to breathalyse me.
One of the questions I was asked (and this was back in 1976) was "Did the bus indicate?" and I confirmed it did.
They then asked "Did you know if a bus indicates it is its right of way if you haven't started to overtake?" and of course I said I knew this even though I didn't.

Anyway, you'll be pleased to know that the driver behind me got blamed for everything because he was driving a stolen car and I've had to live with the guilt of putting 2 people into A&E.
You'll also be pleased to know that since that incident I have always let buses out if they are indicating and slow down if they aren't.
