How are MSI motherboards?

Brilliant thank you all for helping me with my decision. Should hopefully be pressing the buy button end of the month when pay day hits. I've got 32GB of 6000mhz CL30 memory on order to go in it. So it should perform quite nicely.

look for one of these in am5 version or whichever platform your after next:

Aw man I knew I should have stopped looking but now I've seen the ASRock B650e Taichi Lite and I'm thinking that might be the one for me. This is tricky! Would be £95 more than the MSI board but what does that buy you. Well it looks like:
  • PCIe 5.0 x16
  • 24+2+1 Phase Power Design
  • Realtek ALC4082 Audio Codec, ESS SABRE9218 DAC
  • Intel Killer WiFi and LAN NIC
  • USB4
That's it as far as I can tell. £95 to future proof the board for a good few years. The only ASRock expereince I have is from my GPU which is solid and well made. Does that mean their mobo's are too.

I've just gone from an Asrock x570 Taichi to an MSI Tomahawk b650 first impressions are: bios software not as polished as the Asrock seems a bit basic but it is a "budget"(!) board seems slower to boot but apparently thats an issue with AM5? Not as many sata ports but again budget? Biggest annoyance is the lack of proper 5.1 support can't seem to that working at all I've read a few guides but can't get it working I've had enough and ordered a soundcard. Lack of paper manual bugged me just a data sheet and a QR code to download to your phone! Very helpful, not. Also no drivers cd just connect to windows update(!) to get drivers except there is no wifi driver and can't connect without it, whoops. Had to run a long and I do mean long ethernet cable from the router to get online just to grab the drivers.

Biggest plus though is finally having gotten rid of that goddamn awful chipset fan on the Asrock, everytime from a cold boot SCReeeeEEEEEeeeeeEEEEeeeeeCH

i am on the fence about eiather the ROG STRIX X670E-E or the MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI. both are roughly the same but with the ASUS BurnGate and quality reports from people my mind says go MSI. i have a long love for Gigabyte Mobos and Graphics cards but this season the Gigabyte boards are over priced and underwhelming.

does anyone have the MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI and can say good things?

I've still got to pick a B650/X670 mobo. ASUS and MSI warranty are both trash, but I owned a MSI Z77 MPower motherboard running practically everyday for 10 years without issue.

I've bought several MSI boards & only one has failed, that was a Socket 939 board from the mid 2000's. The rest have been AM4 boards. I've had Zero issues with the latter boards. I bought a B450 Tomahawk & a Max Version on the strength of its VRM's. I also bought a B450 Mortar & max, The Mortar does fail to boot on occasion with my 5600g, a switch off and restart solves it though. Most recent is a B550 Gaming, its not used much but that's fine too.

Gotta say i am really tempted by the asrock taichi lite its only a B650E so not sure what its lacking compared to thr X670 when its a cut down version of its bigger Bro. love the design over the bigger bro too. its a good looking board and might save me a bob or two.
it should also fit the 011 Air mini which i want being an E-ATX board. how would it do with a 7950X in it?

Not sure, it looks like it would be tight,
yeah, tbh i only need the SPDIF to support 5.1 Dolby or DTS as i use the optical for my setup. wonder if a riser cable could work here if it didn't. cant see it on OCUK or any other sites yet, when is this thing out. i'll wait for more reviews as well before diving in

EDIT : saw a video of some person with a AMD card in it and the second Gen5 slot is only just visible with that on. suspect with a Gigabyte RTX 4090 in it it would disappear. its a bit of an oversight with the AMD varient as the intelboard has an extra PCI port at the bottom. why the two Lites are different here i cant fathom.
it make any possible expansion with other cards a bit impossible given the components i want to use

Worst thing about my x470 is that after bios update i cant restore settings and have to manually enter everything back in again
I think this is a very interesting point that I hadn't even thought of. With my Asus Mobo I was able to back-up my settings profiles and just restore them after a BIOS update making the whole process quick and simple. Having to re-enter each setting manually after each update would be annoying in the early days when BIOSes are coming pretty quick, especially of the back of the voltage issues on AM5.

Hence why i have decied to skip the most recent bios update since it doesnt have anything in it for me other than some language updates

Bit the bullet and put the order in for the ASRock B650e Taichi Lite. Sorry all, I know you all sang the praises for the MSI boards. Hopefully the extra features will make it a bit more future proof.

To be honest, what I'm hearing recently is ASRock used to have a bit of a negative reputation, but it's something ASRock are aware of and have been working very hard at, apparently the recent ASRock stuff is much better quality.

Anyway, gotta be better than FailSUS.
