A friends son wants a PC for Fortnite, rocket league etc etc, and tbh I've no idea what's what at the lower end of the market.
He's already got a 1440p widescreen and I can give him a better case, fans, KBM etc.
Presumably me building something with parts from the MM would be a far more sensible idea, but that could take time to get everything together.

I can't link the ad, but specs are..

That's hardware from 5 years or so ago which is basically end of life now. The 3050 was significantly worse than the 3060 which was the low end GPU at the time.

Seen a few posts like this. There are scammers around posting extinct hardware as new prebuilts to take advantage of people who don't know their pc hardware.

A low end pre built 1440p gaming pc should be about £1.5k. I assume ocuk sells something with a 5060 Ti or 9060 XT.

He’s already got a PS5 and I can’t see a 3050 being an upgrade in any shape or form, and have told him this, but his son is adamant he wants a PC.
May have a look for some cheap DDR4 Ram, mobo, 3080 and MB in MM.

Perfect for video editing and rendering? Maybe if you have time on your hands.
Cynicism aside, I wouldn't go over £500 for that. For £600 you're right on the cusp of finding an AM5/DDR5 system, possibly with a 3060 class card.

Not dissimilar to the casual gaming pc I put together last month. Same CPU. I spent about £530, but got the mobo/CPU/memory as a bundle on the MM, and also picked up a GTX 1080, which is a chunk more powerful albeit older. I do have a better PSU, and a proper CPU cooler, though. I also have a key site Windows key, so element of risk there.

Price seems reasonable for the spec in the OP, on the whole. just a question of whether it'll do what he wants it for.

Found one with Ryzen 5 5500, Corsair 16GB 3000MHZ, 4060 and NVMe for a few quid over what I posted in OP.
I advised him to put an offer on it.

The rig in your first post is very much someone slapping together some old hardware they found in a cupboard.

There are much better second hand buys out there - one of which you've already discovered.

Minimum gpu is 8GB of VRAM for 1080p for gaming. 12GB if you want a card that could last. Arc cards are a great idea.
Arc B570 has 10GB of VRAM and the Arc B580 has 12GB of VRAM. The Arc B580 is close to the 4060 in performance.
The other issue with the 3050 is no frame generation.

The CPU is 6 cores which is as low as you can go. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3d3-am.html
Also, the platform is AM4 which is dated at this point. DDR4 means a complete upgrade in future. 16GB DDR4 RAM could be a single stick.
A 5800x is a good target. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3cb-am.html

Arc are low power and very cheap. Still cost twice as much for a arc b570.

Arc b580 costs close to the following.

NVIDIA

AMD
