How bad is this tyre?

I was just doing a routine check of my tyres, making sure they are all wearing properly and are okay, when I noticed this:

How bad is this - safe to drive on for a little while? It's obviously not good but I'm no expert on tyre construction to be able to say for sure.

Edit: Darn it, it seems illegal!

For someone who openly admits to cruising around at 3 figure speeds, you really should change that, it's a blow out waiting to happen.

The worrying thing is if this happened over 36 hours ago, it's seen over 2 minutes of V-max

As people who are reading the EVO tyre test thread would have noticed I was getting my tyres replaced soon anyway (Rears are too low), so this couldn't have come at a better time, if it had to come. I'd have been gutted if it had happened to a brand new tyre!

Thread was basically whether I can drive on it this week for 10/20 miles rather than shall I keep driving on it until Christmas :p

If you frequently drive around at 155mph+ you really should invest in high speed rated tyres as the reason for your current tyre failing might be the frequent high speed cruising.

The Pilot Sport 2's I have on there at the moment are 255/35ZR18 94Y, which are 186mph tyres. The Goodyear's replacing them are 94Y too. There isn't really a higher performance choice? I suspect the cut has come from a sharp object, especially as there's smaller digs leading up to that big one.

I drive fast but rarely find stretches which would allow for speeds like this, except in the dead of the night i guess. Not worried about being pulled over and getting a huge ban? :p At these speeds you will be passing so many cars its not that unlikely that one of them would be an unmarked police car.

I thought that at first. Then, after a year of doing it and never encountering these unmarked police cars, I'm beginning to think they don't exist!

Essex police seem to have quite a relaxed towards speeding. Not a lot of fixed or mobile cameras, you can be making some significant progress right past them and they'll not bother, I've driven head on towards both ANPR Evo chase cars while overtaking a lorry on a slightly dodgy bend down a hill and they didn't turn round, sat next to a blues-and-twos Focus estate at 120 with no comeback, pulled over by the police with them saying "sorry, you were driving it like you stole it" (exact words there) and they were just checking I was actually the owner etc. They just don't seem too bothered :p
Barring the damage, that tread depth looks illegal - but it's hard to tell from the photo :)
I thought it was about 1mm by hand, but after checking it, it's dead borderline.
