Windows 8 is great but for desktops it's barely an improvement over 7.

Sorry if I'm wrong in what I am saying, I've got Windows installed and some "desktop" programs. I just had a play on the store and I did not know just how bad it was. Maybe that's harsh.

I really think Windows 8 should have been Desktop and of had a "touch version" for tablets/mobiles. I honestly thought when you install software you can use the store and it would be central (like linuxs software managers) and you can multi-click say 4 programs and mass install and they update together and it'd be awesome but it's tabletware on a desktop.

Another thing is you get 2 versions of each software about when I install desktop programs they should auto-install the stores too.

Anyway there's a great program well two one is ninlite.com it has a bunch of programs you pick and mass install then you can update all together.

Second was classic start I use mainly and I will keep the start screen for games/fullscreen use.

Actually I take back the touch bussiness as you can remote from a touch to a desktop and get touchscreen laptops/comps.

Still who uses the store and what for, is it useful?

On a desktop, the store apps are good for things that you have minimal interaction with (Audible, music etc.) and things you would run full screen anyway (Netflix, games etc.)

Then you've got apps for services you may use (Facebook, twitter, email) that can drive notifications, and their respective live tiles serve as widgets.

Your bread and butter on the desktop will continue to be your full fat applications but there is no reason you cant supplement them with a few well chosen apps from the store.

ah thanks i didn't know the store apps were different from the desktop versions.
