How Best to Play Oblivion?

Hi everyone.

I got Oblivion when it first came out, and after a few weeks, got very bored with it. I would have to point the finger at, yes you guessed it, the level/scaling system.

I'm thinking of starting over, but want to mod the game. I would love to know how you guys play the game, what mods you use, and how it benefits your experience.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks guys.

Paul

I NEVER use fast travel and just do EVERY quest I come across. I also spend ages exploring everywhere and raiding dungeons.

I used to do this when I first started, but the boredom set in as I never seemed to get anything juicy from the chests... the highlight was raiding a gold mine, and finding the occassional gold nugget!

Don't get me wrong, I really like the game, it could do with a little tweak here and there. I need to seriously look at the Mods out there, and try to tailor it for my own needs... I guess that is the beauty of the game, it has an amazing community of dedicated modders, who try and cater for everything.

That's what put me off, you never felt like you got any real reward for clearing a dungeon. Then you hit level 10 and instantly mithril armor starts dropping off bandits, and the whole thing just gets silly. Will have to try ooo mod.

I guess the level/scale system works for some, I'm just not one of them. I'm more than happy to take a good kicking from time to time, providing the reward is huge! I just never seemed to get that feeling of a 'job worth doing' in this game.

I will re-install this game, with the OOO Mod, and perhaps a few others, and try again... never say die, and all that!

I didn't like the OOO mod, personally, I think the scaling system works well with the open gameplay- I didn't do the first Oblivion gate till after, ooh, many hours of aimless mucking about, so if it'd been set difficulty it'd have been a joke. Instead, it was still challenging. Though the levelling system itself doesn't work well with it, since there's no motivation to grow. I reckon they should have taken a look at GTA's minimal skill system. The whole Human Tank thing's always put me off a bit in RPGs, nobody ever seems to notice that in Oblivion I'm now the hardest man in the world, a master blacksmith, athlete, lockpick, alchemist, etc... Maybe some sort of balanced skill sheet, so as you specialise in one thing others degrade?
