Processor : i7 3820
Cooling : OCUK's own 120mm AiO (from 5 years ago)
Motherboard : Asus P9 X79 Pro
RAM : Corsare Vengance DDR3 16GB
PSU : OCZ ZS 750w
Storage : Kingston HyperX 250GB SSD
: 1TB HDD
GPU : Asus GTX 980Ti Strix OC

as you can see im starting to think i am need of an upgrade as the main board socket is now well out of date.
But is it?
While the PC run nicely and run games in fantastic resolutions, i am concerned that the GTX 980Ti was'nt the best option as compatibility with the PCIe bus may not be best, and the fact that DDR4 is now the norm (or becoming) i am pondering my options so can I as those who know about these things to answer a few questions?

1) Is it actually worth while upgrading taking into account of power efficiency and increased functionality

2) If so what is the better rout to go down X99 or Z170 taking into consideration the new announcements from computex

Thanks

The i7 3820 is still a very good cpu, and you have a very good gpu in the 980 ti. An upgrade to X99/Z170 won't be worth the outlay for the very small increase in performance.
