How can I bypass my HP printer blocking generic ink cartridges?

Does anyone know if there’s a way around my printer blocking my generic inks, please?

I have an HP Officepro 7720 as my work printer and I bought generic inks for it a few months ago.

Finally came to replace them today and it says that the printer knows they’re not genuine HP inks so it’s put a block in place until I buy genuine ones.

Very frustrating because a) I can’t use any other colour printing until I buy more ink b) I have already spent £25 on ink c) it seems totally wrong that HP are allowed to monopolise this.

Is there a way to turn this feature off or make my printer not be so fussy?!

Thank you

Dear admin,
Please note the following:
1. I attempted to find a suitable forum for my question, but the only place I found was related to 3D printing, which I believe is unrelated to my query.
2. I have previously asked questions, and I am unsure if I am allowed to ask more than one question.
3. Please feel free to delete this post if it violates the forum rules.

As tamzzy suggested
See if the printer menu has an option
To disable cartridge protection
Since that's an HP solution if it does have it
Can't see any issues with that

Other methods are available
That's where I would be unsure if those
Would be classed as hacking etc
And against forum rules

Plenty places sell compatible ink for that model
So definitely doable by some means

Yes you can ask more than one question
Not sure how it currently stands
But used to be a limit somewhere between 10--20
For every 24 hours for first month
A rolling 24 hours so doesn't automatically reset at for example
Midnight and give your full quota back
It's 24 hours from each post or reply to a post
This is to stop new members bot spamming
Used to be if you used reply button that didn't count towards the total
No idea if it's still the same
But if you suddenly find you're unable to post
This may be why

Never knew HP do this, what a mean company.

Can they do this, its not right, surely?
Yes and no
Depends for one thing What country you're in
Printer companies have both lost and won
Class action lawsuits over this
But one country's ruling doesn't necessarily apply in others
Plus a new lawsuit can still be filed
Using a slightly different argument etc

I know someone who was an ink chemist at fuji
She gave me an insight into how much
Money was involved in printer ink
Even if they lose some lawsuits
The amount of money involved means they won't
Just give up

Most modern printers no matter the company don't like none genuine inks these days, the only ones we still sell are for older Epsons that still accept them. HP haven't liked compatibles for around 15 years now from our experience.

The reason they don't like 3rd party inks is that they're typically of lower quality and risk clogging up the nozzles.

This isn't something new or unique to just ink. Plenty of companies and products enforce you to use specific things for a variety of reasons.

I have never had compatible inks clog up the print heads of any of the Epson printers I have had and I only use the printer a few times a month.
Yeah epson compatible can definitely
Clog up
Usually it's not the print head though
It's the spikes that pierce the cartridges
That clog up
I have saved more epson printers
Than I care to remember over the years
The friend I had at fuji told me wizz glass cleaner dissolves printer ink
Turns out not just wizz others can work too
Take cartridges out
Spray kitchen towel with wizz
Press over and around the spikes
Leave for 10 minutes and repeat until
The paper towel comes off with no ink on it
And normally fixes it :)

I had this problem with an old HP printer. I even set in the options on the printer and software on the desktop to no allow updates. I did not wanted to buy their expensive ink catridges. Over time not sure why but the printer self updated meaning it would reject non genuine ink catraidges.

Scrapped the printer and went with an Epsom with their refillable ink cartridges and never looekd back.

I think it's got more to do with them wanting you to buy their ink more than anything.

I think HP are pushing their luck now with subscription based ink. As if blocking third party ink wasn't enough for them.

Binned off my HP printer two years ago, drivers filled with adware. If I want to print from my phone and iPad, I had to create an account for HP first when I didnt need to before

Now using an Brother laser printer and couldn't be happier.

Totally agree but I think you should have got an eco tank Epson as they can't block third party ink. They also let you print from any device without making an account.

I have had my Epson since November last year and I use it more than average as I work at home and I am still on the original fill up and there is plenty in the bottles left so I honestly think it's going to last me 2-3 years. These ones came with the printer and you can get all the colours for £25 so its a bargain highly recommend them.
