How can I find out my Internet speed?

I don't mean one of those online speed tests, but the supposed service speed that I've bought from my ISP. I had this account set up for me by my housemate who was an ISP reseller. He changed the ISP completely before moving out. Now it just occured to me today that it was never made clear specifically what service I got.

I checked the account details and the online billing service but it gives no reference to the specifics. Before I go emailing the ISP I just wondered if there was a local way to find this information. Incidentally the online speed tests show I'm getting under 1mb.

You're with Enta so you're probably on up to 8Mbps - what you actually get will depend on how fast your modem connects, which depends on how good your line is.
Your modem should show what speed it's connected at. If it's part of a router it'll be within its web interface, if it's a USB modem it'll be shown within its drivers.

if you have access to the router / modem you should be able to few the up and down link speed.

Thanks for the replies. As I said, I don't need an online speed test which DLs a file and tells me the speed, I need to find out what speed my service actually is. I can look on my router web page but I don't see any service details.

I'll keep looking. None of my account details with the ISP mention what my service is. Maybe I'll send an email.
