Im currently on 512k adsl... is there another technology I could swap to which would give me a faster line?

My post code is SL6 3DE and my stats are:

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 832 Kbps
Noise Margin 8.6 dB
Line Attenuation 58.0 dB
Output Power 11.9 dBm

Upstream
Line Rate 288 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 776 Kbps
Noise Margin 19.0 dB
Line Attenuation 31.5 dB
Output Power 13.5 dBm

Many thanks

does LLU go by the same restrictions as normal adsl? Bulldog is enable on the maidenhead exchange as is UKonline.

Not going to get any more with that noise margin anyway.

They're not tied by the BT restrictions, but yes, you're not going to get any faster out of it. Assuming you've already been through all the master socket joy, there's no more you're going to get.

512k might not be rapid mate but to cheer youself up just remember what life is like stuck on a 56k modem :D .

There you go you feel a little bit better now dont you ?

problem is when you hear that some people can get ADSL2+ connections which provide 15-16mbp then your connection looks like 56K and tbh it does feel like that when demo's get bigger and they take longer etc while our friend on ADSL2+ connection takes all of 5 minutes to download a 600MB odd file.. while 512k man has to wait 1hr+

Hi... I am grateful Im not on 56k, definitely, but I was on a 2meg connection before I moved and 512k is just sooo slooooooooow compared to what I had :( :( :(

Tolien,

Ukonline have told me I should be able to get 5mb from them after giving them my phone number. Are they talking out of their behinds?

A[L]C - this is a VERY wild shot in the dark but i've just gone from flakey barely 1.2Mbps to a fairly steady 5.4 (might loose DNS at some point in the day so have to drop and re-connect but fine for gaming, yet to try a manual DNS to a trusted name server). Place I moved into had a master socket that looked mint but was completely shot. Replaced it with a filter face plate (google - easy find) and it took off :)

You might have to talk to your current supplier and feed them router stats etc till they listen to get then to re-test the line but you may well get better speed :)
The other option is to see if thats what the UKonline test is showing - a good line with bad equip at your end :) I largely agree with tolian that they prob talking out their rear but worth a pop if the first option fails :)

i would email them and see what reply they give, if they give this same reply, go with them to try it out... if you get any less, show them this email as a ground for breaking their yearly contract (if they do do it)... but then again if they do more than 516 then it would stillbe better right
