I have a minor problem in that I need to get my ethernet socket to power off completely after I have shut my PC down. The reason being is that I recently upgraded my network to homeplugs and because my PC's ethernet socket doesnt power down as such when the PC is shut down, the homeplugs cant go into standby mode causing them to be running 24/7 and getting rather hot which concerns me. My USB hard drive also stays running when the PC is shut down also.

The ethernet adapter is an integrated adapter (VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter) on my Shuttle SK21G's motherboard which uses a VIA K8M800CE + VIA VT8237 chipset running Pheonix/Award bios. Everything is using the latest drivers on 32bit XP Pro and I have had a quick look through the bios and Windows settings but cant seem to find anything. Pulling the kettle lead out of the back of the PSU of course causes the ethernet socket to power down along with my USB hard drive but this isnt really very convenient!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A temporary option that you could use untill you find a more suitable way would be to turn off the on/off switch on the back of your PSU to fully power down (AFTER the pc has already been shut down that is).

On another note, i've been running dinovo powerline adapters 24/7 for about a year and never had the slightest niggle from them. Got 4 of them scattered around the house now, 1 on the router, 2 attached to hubs and 1 to a modern machine with the always on port you're having problems with so would think most/all of them are fully up most of the time.

never noticed my homeplugs go into standby as the routers allways on

I would suggest a remote control power socket £5 and you can turn off everthing without crawling round the back
