A discount on a Tiffany & Co ring? Whilst still buying it from them.

Best ideas so far is to buy from the LHR T5 shop airside, or take a trip to NYC and save 34% on the item I want (before flights...which are only a few hundred).

Anyone have any experience with this?

Have you tried asking for a discount here in the UK yet? A lot of luxury items can be blagged for far less, particularly when people are being cautious with their spending.

Not yet no. But they don't exactly have a very good reputation for discounting, as a method of maintaining brand image. Unless anyone knows any different?

Go to the shop tell them what you want to buy, then tell them how much it will cost in NY including a return ticket and then say if you get close enough to that price I'll be purchasing today. They will offer you a discount, then it's up to you. Personally I wouldn't touch tiffany jewellery with a barge pole it's hideously overpriced for what you get.

I know it's 40-50% over the raw material costs....but I'm only planning on buying one of these items in my entire lifetime so don't mind so much.

Agreed. I'll put the ball in their court. Was planning on walking in clued up on US rates as a bargaining chip. I'd be happy with 15-20% off.

I got a good discount on a bracelet, I asked what they could do for me and they said nothing so I opened my wallet and gave them my business card and said give me a call if they could do anything and probably clocked the wad of cash I had in there as I was on my way to the bank!!

The guy looked at me funny when I handed him my credit card when I went back in!!

Which store?

The very fact that your business card was in your wallet rather than your business card holder should have put him off, heathen.

If thats the case unless tiffany is the only thing she will even consider accepting get something made by a real jeweller that will be truly individual and not say 'look at my bling it cost loads'. If it's all she is willing to accept then good luck!
