On Realplayer superpass they do not allow you to stream BBC World if you live in the UK. How can I bypass this?

I don't suppose a proxy will work?

Many thanks!

Just so you know, free proxies are almost always v low bandwidth, nowhere near fast enough to stream video.

I use Tor with Firefox, and can stream radio absolutely fine through it. It initially takes a long time to load, but once loaded it's just the same speed as if going through explorer.

I'm not sure about streaming video though. I've not been able to test it, as it looks like you have to pay for the BBC World, and I can't get access to BBC's Iplayer as they want a UK IP number.

I did this but the other way round - I was in the US and wanted to stream some UK only content.

Grabbed myself a cheap UK VPS and then tunneled through it using SSH so it looked like I was in the UK.

All you would have to do is use a cheap VPS say in the US (although I recommend Germany, bit more expensive than the US but latency / ping times etc near enough the same as UK) and tunnel through that.

If you don't want to SSH tunnel, try looking at antinat on a Linux VPS and limit it to your IP only, same effect and there are step by step guides for that one.

Tor would work if you can guarantee that you don't hit a high load / slow bandwidth node, never really used it myself to a great extent but to me it always felt slower than a slug going uphill in a headwind - maybe I was unlucky!

Hope that helps,
M.

How much did you pay for your UK VPS?

Something like 9 quid from cheapvps.co.uk - I think they are still using the same X2RAM for double the RAM deal.

Warning though - there support all hinges on 1 guy the owner, his so called support team just answer with 'we will have to pass this to higher admin', which means they have answered within so many minutes but with nothing worthwhile ;)

You could also try changing the region setting in the control panel. I did this once before for some internet service, can't remember what, just to see if it would work and it did surprisingly.

A quick and easy fix if it works for you.
