Without going into specifics, i would like to know if my phone has been tapped and someone can hear my conversation. How do i find out for sure and prevent this from happening?

Googling suggests that people can find out all your deleted texts, your calls etc and can even intercept when you make a call but how would i stop that from happening?

If you're Sienna Miller I'll come over and show you.

Sorry to break it to you OP but I'm 99.9% sure that no one really gives two hoots about your conversions, at least to go as far as the effort and expense of tapping your phone.

To fuel your paranoia it's very easy on land lines and you would never know unless you were told, I've seen it in action. Mobiles I don't know.

The solution to your non problem is to chuck your phone away, don a tin foil hat and take up residence under the nearest motorway flyover

It was pretty easy pre-smart phone. Can't remember what I used.

Can't imagine it'd be too difficult now, but my knowledge is purely legacy stuff.

Mobiles can be done, I believe, by cloning the SIM so that you can decode the relevant data that is being broadcast.

And yes, landlines are pretty easy with copper wire (versus optical fibre) and assuming you're not using VOIP.

Depends really. On the CAB level definitely, exchange not too sure. Definitely on the D-Side (from the telephone pole to your house), not sure about the E-side. Is this legal or agency tapping (CA, Police, SS etc) or are we talking about one individual?

Land lines are very very easy as someone mentioned it's just 2 bits of copper wire, mobiles I can imagine are rather more difficult and would require special knowledge, but land lines pretty much anyone can if the really want to.
