How cheap can you really get custom watercooling?

Thanks guys, i have chosen decent parts for my build, just as cheap as I could get them :D

Held up now by the case not being available til the 25th.... But hey I'm still on the hunt for anything else I might want or need.

well done mate - i had a similar experience buying from the MM here:

all in all cost me £240 (that includes price for a brand new Supreme HF AND a Corsair 700D though!)
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18264096

PS - don't forget you've still gotta get compressions/barbs ;)

Yeah remember seeing that, nice build... I really wanted a nickel plexi ek CPU block but couldn't justify the new price of over £50 when I wanted to do it as cheap as possible.

I'm still thinking if it's worth me trying to get a res top for my DDC as they are much more compact and easier to fill and bleed.

The Res tops make the pumps slightly quieter too ;)

I'd highly recommend one - sure I seen one on for sale recently, just can't remember if it was this forum or another.

absolute nonsense,

buying cheap does not mean having a nightmare, i bought 90% of my watercooling parts 2nd + 3rd hand apart from the tubing and barbs and everything worked just fine, i would love to know why people always think brand new is always better

i didn't say dont buy used. I buy used all the time. I said buy cheap buy twice

off high house back into pram

If you buy cheap parts then you will not be happy with it and then buy a better one.

Not taking about second hand parts just budget parts.

Most of my loop is second hand but its all top of the range

Yes but you got quality parts then, A £25 resi/pump combo (new cost) wouldn't be a wise choice seconds hand, Their allways breaking on other watercooling forums and killing expensive hardware off.

Buy cheap buy twice

I have to agree, to some extent.. I bought new budget parts except for the cpu waterblock as the good quality and easy install seemed to outweigh saving a couple of quid.

The rad and the pump were the cheapest on the site i bought from though and whilst the rad has proved its value the pump/res diddnt.. The first pump/res I recieved never worked and the replacement they sent lasted maybe 5min. So I went to a phobya pump designed to be a pump and a ek res designed to be a res. Cost a bit more, but now all is working well and cooling well.. I could have saved myself from wasting my cash on a cheap pump/res..

moral of the story? better to look for the cheapest and go at least one up from that. Also, buy items that are designed for a certain purpose...

So what your saying is my DDC ultra is garbage ?

It cost me £18 with the top, and is one of the best pumps on the Market, all this buy cheap buy twice is nonsense.

My ek supreme is also a quality item and I won't be needing 2 of those or 2 of the DDC ultras for that matter.

I think the "buy cheap, buy twice" only really applies when buying new parts.
i.e. getting the cheapest pump/res combo to go with the cheapest cpu block and the cheapest radiators with the cheapest fans probably isn't a good idea.

Of course buying second hand means everything is more unique and possible not reproducible (in that someoen else couldn't come along and get the exact same parts in exactly the same condition for exactly the same price).

If for example you complete this paying £60 that's great, for you. Would it then be fair to compare this to the cost of a new Silver Arrow and compare the performance? Probably not in my opinion.

When you compare it to the closed loop system what if you get really lucky and someone sells you a H80 for £10 (unlikely I know but...) would you then have to conclude that your custom loop isn't 6 times more effective and as a result that custom watercooling is expensive considering the performance gain you get compared to closed loops?

So not quite sure what it'll prove, but still an interesting project .

This will prove you don't have to spend a fortune on custom Watercooling and is available for anyone who is willing to look hard enough.

I know there must be people that don't even consider custom Watercooling because they assume it costs loads, I just want to show what is available new/used for as little as possible.

I have seen some very nice but expensive Watercooling builds on here, and I'm sure are worth it to the user, but I want the same awesome custom temps for as little as possible.
:D

Or should I say I hope I get ;)

well, lets get back to the original topic :)
any new(used) parts added to the basket OP?

No not yet, still waiting for the case to come in.

That's not till the 25th or so that's what is says on ocuk.

I missed one on eBay the other day.

Also can't really get any rads till I get the case as I need to see what's going to fit and what won't.

Well guys got the case :D

Just managed to get my rig in it at the moment and got the HDD drives free as i am planning on putting a 240 rad there and a 360 in the roof.

Just wondering if i will get the RX series of rads in there.

Hmmm
