Just looking through the tv guide i saw this advertised for Channel 4 tonight

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/idris-elbas-how-clubbing-changed-the-world

Actor and international DJ Idris Elba counts down the defining moments of the greatest cultural phenomenon of our generation in a programme featuring some of the biggest names in dance music.

Twenty-five years after the birth of rave, a new generation of British DJs and producers are at the forefront of a global musical revolution.

From trance to dubstep, the sound of British producers has now become the most sought-after commodity for the biggest pop stars on the planet.

Reaching far beyond the sweaty dance floors of the Hacienda and the Ministry of Sound, this programme reveals how British nightclubbing transformed our nation and influenced societies across the world.

With personal insights and club-raising anecdotes from David Guetta, Armand van Helden, Paul Oakenfold, will.i.am, Nile Rodgers, Goldie, Pete Tong, Katy B, Skream and former Home Secretary Michael Howard, amongst many more, this entertaining and thought-provoking film celebrates the British success story that has conquered the world.

From sun-kissed holidays on the party island of Ibiza to the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, and from illegal warehouse raves to Labour's 1992 adoption of D:Ream's Things Can Only Get Better, clubbing has touched everyone's life whether they know it or not.

This is an international story, going beyond the music to look at clubbing's influence on everything from real estate to drug use, fashion, politics and the drinks industry.

How Clubbing Changed the World explores how clubbing went from a counter-cultural movement that defined a generation to a multi-billion-pound business, and reveals how, 25 years on, Great Britain is still king of the underground.

And just so this doesn't look like a 'heads up' topic :p what are your favourite clubbing moments / years?

Given my clubbing cherry was popped in the trance heyday of 1998, 98-01 were magical years for me.

Most awesome experience?

Even though I'm not a fan of the track, the atmosphere when it kicked in was like none other I have ever experienced.

Being old enough to have gone to the Hacienda, those years have to be the best for me.

Although, they are all a bit of a blur for some odd reason with huge holes in my memories...........

As a teenager rocking up every week on a Friday to the Rhythm Station in Aldershot then doing a full 2 days work on Saturday and Sunday. Was a crazy time and holds some of the best and (missing) memories of my youth.

Then probably 2004 - 2008 becoming a dj, playing all over London and then releasing a track with my flatmate and the remix of it by Daniel Kandi being played by Armin van Buuren on his ASOT show 3 weeks in a row and then it featuring on his Yearmix CD album and the Imagine live show DVD. Couldn't get better than that really.

But my last truly epic and amazing party has to be Nature One 2011 - Europe know's how to put on a party ! Anything in the UK is abysmal compared to Europe and ID&T parties !!!!

Best years for clubbing music: when I was at uni (1998-2001).
Best personal moments for actual clubbing:

1) El Camborio, Granada, Spain 2003. A totally amazing venue, at the top of a hill, with balconies looking down over the city and view of the ancient Alhambra palace. Some of the dance floors are literally in caves carved out of the rock undersitting the main mansion. When you are on one of the balconies watching the sun rise, sipping your cocktail at 6am, you feel like a columbian drug lord surveying your domain. E-P-I-C!

2) The Opera House, Bournemouth circa 2002-4. Used to head down there at weekends in my early 20s, slinky on fridays and free bar on saturdays (they stopped doing the free bar after a while as I think it attracted the wrong crowd). I pulled a Brazillian girl once! There are better clubs but it was a time of my life inbetween finishing uni and meeting my wife, doing a basic job, probably the 'free-est' period of my life in general.

3) The dance room in the main club in my home town, 2002-5. The club itself was generally a mainstream cheesy nightclub, usual drill, people go out to pubs then head there at the end of the night looking to pull or get in fights. But the dance room was a little gem, playing a lot of my favourite tunes (PvD, Robert Miles, Snap!, BT, Rank 1, AvB etc), usually had most things you'd request, and the general vibe was good, people were mostly there to have a good time and just have a dance, not the aggro and posing you'd get on the main floor.

Similar to a few that have already posted, my best years were the ones at uni up in Aberdeen 1998 - 2002. A couple of big events at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre were Glam and Slinky in 2000, and Homelands Scotland 2001 (still got the tags with the lineups somewhere).

Also worked at a few bars / clubs during my uni time so quite often saw some decent folk for free while 'working' Seb Fontaine, Lisa Pin Up, Anne Savage etc etc

Seeing Sasha and Digweed at Homelands was magic, just a shame they weren't on together as Sasha was playing down in Liverpool later on that night.

A couple of years later, I did get to see 2manydjs down in Edinburgh which was decent. dropping deacon blue dignity was superb :D

Might have to dust off my decks and get some mixes on the go again :D

EDIT

Just seen that theres a 6 hr 'house party' nonsense after it

Amnesia house brafield outdoor 1992 is my most memorable, 15000 people off their faces and the biggest queue I ever saw.
