I think the x1900xt has 16 pipelines, but 8 vertex shaders.
Of course its not advertised because the 7900's have 24 but those 16 pipelines do a lot of work. I think ATI's current thinking is shaders are more important, and with 48 pixel shaders they prefer to push that figure.
