How common are dead pixels?

Just out of interest how common are they? Do certain brands suffer more than others?

I plan on buying 3 asus mx279h near the begining of next month and have read I'd need a minimum of 5 dead pixels in order to rma to asus. I know manufacturing must be hard to be perfect but I'm a bit worried about being stuck with 2-3 in obvious places.

So should I worry and go to a local shop force them to allow me to inspect before purchase or just order from ocuk and risk it(or not risk it depending on how common it is)?
 
I've owned 9 monitors and never had a stuck pixel.

BTW I believe ocuk has a policy and will replace a monitor with a stuck pixel :)

I was basing on the support pages. Id happily pay a bit extra to guarantee a lack of dead pixels :D

My very first TFT screen (an 18.1" LG) had one dead pixel, must have been is 2003. My DELL that replaced it and my Samsung don't have any.

Rather good point. I'd hate to waste ocuks time by returning monitors that have dead pixels especially since those two rules seem to contradict each other.

It so far seems random at best manufacturer wise.

My first ever LCD, bought from OCUK last year (yes I was still using a CRT in 2012 :eek:), has 1 stuck pixel. It's not noticeable a lot of the time, so I just live with it.
 
The first of the two u2713hm's that I tried before sending back had a stuck red pixel. No other monitor I've had has ever had one though.

Backlight bleed is far more common unfortunately :(
 
I've had a few with dead pixels or flashing red ones... hanns G 19" from 2006 had 1 dead sub pixel, DGM VA had 1 white pixel, my Iiyama e2773HDS had a few red ones but it died :D got a new one as the repairtech one that it replaced was broken & smelled like a gents toilet... My recent screens have been dead pixel free
