Hi all
Just a random thought that's popped into my head, and its made me wonder, How did you end up living where you are now?

For me, I was born in Dorset, and lived most of my life here, I moved away to Bristol a couple of years ago, but because of some circumstances I've recently moved back home.

What is it that makes people move, and how do you choose where you want to move to?

Lived in Hampshire during my teens. My father kicked me out and got me a job in St Helens, Merseyside aged 22 in 1974. Stayed in the northern parts ever since.

I left home at 18 to go to university and have lived on my own ever since, then a year or so ago my Mother needed me to move back in to help her look after my old man (Parkinson's with lewy dementia and cancer). So yeah, I'm back living with my parents for now.

East Mids till I was 18
West Mids for Uni and first 6 years of work

London since then for work

Hopefully I'll be back in my homeland permanently in the next 10 years

1967 : Born in Exeter

Early school was in Woking, then moved to Worcester.

1977 : Portishead just outside Bristol, till first job 1984

Been here ever since, tell a lie i now live in Clevedon a few miles down the coast.

Seen enough of the city to now appreciate a bit of quiet.

Love the coast

I genuinely have no idea I just woke up one day and wanted to either live in Nottingham or Southampton, two places I'd never been. I got a job in Nottingham first and have been here 20 years.

I've lived in a 10 mile radius all my life. Discounting one year, I've actually lived in a 3 mile radius all of my life.

There's plenty of other places in the UK that I'd love to live however they are either too expensive or don't have the same variety as Manchester. I always like the idea of living somewhere more rural but the lack of job opportunities and / or long commutes put me off.

Met a Swedish woman in London that came from a crappy town near the Arcitc circle. She wanted to stay in Sweden, I didn't want to live in London anymore.
Worked out ok So far.
I worked in the oil industry for a good few years so am very accustomed to travel and living abroad, tbh it wasn't really a tough decision and London is just 3 or 4 hours away by flights if i need.

Article circle.... lol

Finished a HND in electronics in Liverpool just as the market for technicians dried up in the early 80s. After 210 handwritten letters out to various companies and only getting 4 interviews I'd about given up. Not long after my brother rang me up to tell me that his IT company wanted another person just like him, so I followed dear old Norman Tebibit's advice and got on my bike. I've been in London for thirty nine years now.
