How Did You Get Into Your Job?

H&S Officer
NOOOOooooooo!

My story:
Went to school - did well
Went to college and got part time job in supermarket - did bad due to lack of a goal
Worked in supermarket for another 18 months
Applied for job at IFA's office - lasted 1 day
Applied for new job in insurance company - been an admin monkey for 2.3 years earning peanuts.

I wish I could get into property development or stock trading but I have no idea how :(

Didn't know what to do once I finished my BSc in Physics, so went on to do a MSc Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors, and sort of fell into the nuclear industry, almost by accident really, though I am glad I did.

using the words nuclear and accident in the same sentance just had you flagged :D

Was working as an IT Technician and then applied for apprenticeship with local council in a Technical Support role (3rd line/ server admin role)

Got the apprenticeship and completed the NVQ lvl 2 (pointless as I aready had BTEC National Diploma) after 12 month's and then got the job permanently.

Registered with an agency when we moved here, got a low level data entry job here. 3 years later and I am in a management position after working my backside off!

Designed developed some websites for firms that I use when I was 15, got some free goods as payment.

I then got involved with a forum by one of their customers. I then met the owner of a successful website design and development company, and he offered me over-spill work. At 17 I registered as self-employed. I work for him and a few other clients. Should make some nice profit come my tax-return in April. (Still 17)

Left college and went to work as a PC system builder, however I really wanted to get into Film and TV so I applied to as many media companies that I could find for a position as a runner.

Finally got a job as a runner at one of the biggest media companies after about 6 months of searching. I worked as a runner for about 3 months before moving to despatch, worked there for about a year before getting a break (I was held back a bit because I'm colour blind) and moved into the file based media department where I worked for just under 3 years holding 3 different positions within the department.

I'm leaving the company in a couple of weeks to start my new job as a Broadcast Engineer for a sports broadcaster. So it took me just under 5 years to get to this position.

Started at the very bottom of the food chain (call centre) and worked my way up to my current position through hard work and sheer luck (and the fact that the company was going thorugh a period of massive expansion)

Dropped out of college and planned to move to capital city to get a job there, when my cousin told me that one of his colleagues is leaving (to go to college, gotta love the irony) and that there will be a spot for me there. So I went for an interview, got the job and been here for a year and 3 months now.Love it.

I was made redundant by previous company, signed up to an agency and was offered a 4 week temp job, helping out the I.T. Dept to set up a room for a new campaign....

After the four weeks ended, they simply kept asking me to come back, was that way for a year and a half before they finally gave me a full contract.... now i'm the server engineer for this and our sister site too ;)

I was a recruitment consultant, and was given my job as a role to fill. Never did get my new boss to pay the invoice for placing myself...

I was made redundant in 2007 after 27 years at the same factory.
January 2008 I had a phone call out of the blue asking if I wanted to go on a NHS ready To Go Course (basically I thought it was a joke).
After 3 weeks of Work Experience working with the 14 to 19 Team I ended up getting a job.

Sheer misfortune and lack of qualifications, having no ambition does not help either. Took the job out of desperation and every day is a battle to stave off my suicidal thoughts
