How different are these 2 sets of speakers?

No no no no no! Is this a windup?

RCA goes to RCA. If your hifi has an aux input then you can connect your tv's red and white output to the re and white input and use the hifi as you describe. If not then you need to invest in something else.

I think he gets this, i think the confusion is that the op thinks that those speaker spring terminals are an AUX input.

To repeat the question seems like OP doesn't get it. Things will fry if the volume is turned up on the hifi connected as suggested.

That doesnt look like an Aux in to me. That looks like another set of speaker terminals.

Whats the HIFI model and we can look into the specs of it to give a better suggestion.

I was only using the pictures that lucid used, it is that kind of connection but I'll take a look at the model later and see if the manual is still online.

This is where giving the model number of your Sony would help so we all can see exactly what it does and doesnt have :)

yes - this is it. I assume they are not an AUX input then :) thank you! Lot of people getting very angry at me!

No one is intentionally or maliciously getting angry with you. It's just that (and forgive me for being blunt) you are making something very very simple in to something hugely immensely enormously complicated!!!!!!

Unless your Sony Hi-Fi is completely and utterly bizarre then the chances that you have speaker terminals as an AUX input are somewhere between infinitesimally small and zero. What I actually think now is that you are either just guessing what's on the back because you're too lazy to look properly or at least get out the book or even download a fresh pdf from the Sony website... or you're just taking the P.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but I'm no longer prepared to waste any more of my time on this until you do a bit of homework and also post a nice clear picture of the back of your stereo. After all, you're the one asking for help. So I think it's only right and proper that you play the game in exchange for the help you're expecting to get for free.

Hi mate.

Look I really appreciate the help you're giving me here and I'm sorry to complicate things but I did try to forewarn people throughout the thread that I'm totally dumb when it comes to hifi . But I'm starting to feel like dvdbunny with people's replies lol!

Ok you're right I normally reply to the thread when at work and never remember to look at the stereo when I get home. So I was being a little lazy and it doesn't actually say aux, but md/video in, and it's phono in rather than speaker wire. So I guess I can't blow anything up by getting hold of a red and white to red and white phono cable and trying it out! Although I'm quite sceptical that it will use its amp to play back the tv....

It is a Sony cmt-cp100 - don't laugh lol I'm just trying things to get the best sound out of what I have.

ok, those 2 phono sockets above the speakers and below the fm antennas is an aux in - you can plug your tv into that (phono-to-phono).
then you can play the tv through the amp - it will have a switch on the front to change it to the aux input.
