Just bought a nifty fifty and a HOYA CIR-polarizing filter (52mm).

Can't seem to figure out how to attach it on. Help guys?? lol.

Michael.

There are threads on the front of the lens and on the back of the CP that screw together. You've got to make sure you've got the right size for your lens, obviously.

lol silly me, was trying to screw it in the wrong way.

how do I know which orientation the filter is in? There is a silver mark on the filter. What does this indicate?

I think orientation of UV doesn't matter but it does with a polarzing filter.
You have to align the 'filter' 90 degrees to the direction of sunshine or, something like that.

it's probably meant to be half and half (ie horizon line)

did you try reading the little bit of paper that should tell you how to put it on properly?

Every shot you take with the polariser; turn it until you have the desired effect.

90 degrees from the sun direction will give you the bluest/darkest skies. Straight into or away from the sun will have little or no effect.

For other things like reflections in water or cars just spin until you get what you want.

polariser filter, you just keep turning the filter till you get *** effect you like.
Very different some times to use if you zoom lens turns when you zoom in or out !

I'm fairly certain on my CP filter the arrow indicates where the sun should be. Point the arrow at the sun for the best effect. It's a bit of a hassle if you're looking through the viewfinder so just keep turning until you get *** desired effect, it doesnt make much difference as you can really ruin a shot if it's turned the 'wrong' way. :)

Have used mine today and I just turn it until I have the desired effect. It does make a massive difference in reducing glare and reflection, if you haven't got one, get one!

agree entirely it's one of the best things I've purchased. got one just before I went for a two week holiday in cuba and it rarely came off the camera!

i really should buy a new one. i've got the case for mine, but i've lost the filter. I think it's in the lakes..somewhere!
