Hi Guys

I bought a Kingston 128GB USB flash drive and my PC is telling me it only 32GB

How do i 100% confirm that it is only 32GB instead of 128GB

I assumed from your post you had just taken it from the packaging and put it in the PC to discover it was reading 32GB. Least it’s sorted now.

Yes i just took it from the packaging and struck it into the PC and let MediaCreationTool do it thing and after it finished i noticed it was saying it was only 32GB

I have wiped & formatted the card myself afterwards to 115GB and then tried the MediaCreationTool again and the tool then formats the card back to 32GB

Thanks Guys

It seems like the windows MediaCreationTool formatted it to only 32GB
I removed the 32GB format and i can now format it to 128GB (115GB)
Windows in its wisdom
Formats fat32 as a 32gb maximum
It's possible to format it manually to a much higher size
Apparently Microsoft don't because its
An inefficient file system for larger sizes

I supect it created a FAT32 partition, which is a max size of 32GB
You're sort of correct
Windows decides 32gb is max size
But there's various methods to do it larger
So it's not technically limited to 32gb
It's just a windows imposed limit not an its not possible limit
