How do I connect Netgear DGN2000 to internet?

It keeps saying

The Wizard was unable to establish a connection.

Please check the DSL cable before continuing.

My other modem works fine. Have I had my pants pulled down?

In the status, is it synced? Have you checked your username/password?

Yeah it's blinking. Gonna go to shops and buy a new cable and try my friends filter. I don't use a filter atm.

no... in the router console, go to "router status" and check if its synced.

Why aren't you using the filter/cable that came with it?

Ah no it's not it says negotiating. I got it without a cable/filter.

Got it working with a different but it's soooo slow only 330kbps down speed.

Okay it's running at 0.3 meg what the hell.
