How do I do a memory test on a MAC?

Hi there,

Think my memory is broken and was wondering how you do a memory test on a mac.

Can you just boot Memtest86 and use that? I have an early 2009 MacBook

  1. Insert the Apple Hardware Test disc (OS X disc) that came with your Mac into your Mac's optical drive.

  2. Restart your Mac by either:
    • Selecting Restart in the Apple menu.
    • Pressing the Command-Control-Eject keyboard shortcut.

  3. Immediately press and hold the C key on your keyboard.
  4. Release the C key after the Apple Hardware Test appears on your display and indicates that it is loading.

Memtest with single user mode though does infact test the majority of memory in your system so would likely find anything. What about boot camp and stress test the ram with prime/other?

Im now back home so have got my hardware test cd and am going to run that, its not on the installation disk though, its on the applications disk and you have to press the D key to get it to boot.

Also, is one pass enough (took 1.5hours) or should i do several passes?

If it passes then its fine as far as apple would see it.

Any why does the 4gb thing an issue, have you got a MB/MBP with a 3Gb limit?
