How do I find out what firmware my 2G is running? Want to unlock it

Ok, so I'm going to sell my trusty 2G on the bay of E's now I have my iPhone 4. So I went into the settings and selected reset in order to wipe everything. However, once it fired back up and I connected it to iTunes it told me it wanted to restore and update so I did that. Now when I connect it to iTunes it tells me the SIM is not supported. I want to unlock it but what application/program do I use to unlock the thing as I'm not sure what firmware it is running and can't get into see the settings as all it will do is let me make an emergency call?.

settings about screen should still be avail..

it sounds like youve upgraded to os4 and possibly it was already unlock ie jail****** hence asking and only allowing emergency calls.

It was unlocked and the "other" thing that we are not allowed to discuss here, yeah. I assume during the restore process it would have upgraded to OS4 from there?.

The "About" screen, how do I get to that?. All I appear to be able to do is swipe the slider to make an emergency call and press the little "i" for info telling me the IMEI number.

Sorted it out. I had indeed inadvertently upgraded to OS 4. Dropped back to 3.1.2 and everything is working fine now.
