How do I get a stronger Wi-Fi signal from my ADSL Router

I live in a bungalow and the walls are nothing more than breeze blocks and brick, yet if I step out on to the patio or go out to the garage the Wi-Fi vanishes.
I did a quick search on google the other week for "high power" routers but this appears to be a bit of a misnomer and is more marketing spiel than anything else.
So what to do?
Buy a couple of access points and stick one at each end of the house or buy some sort of industrial grade router that will fry me if I get too close? :D

Current router is a NETGEAR DG834N "rangemax" lol "NEXT wireless ADSL2+modem router" ver1.02

Also shielded phone cable is another option. So you can place the wireless router in a more central location while keeping it connected to the master socket. £10-15 for 10 metres, may be able to find it cheaper than I did. Less outlay than a better wireless router.
Moving it one room more centrally (into the hallway) made the difference between 50% house without coverage and strong 100% coverage (old house thick walls).

In a bungalow I'd put the router centrally in the loft, high up.

Exactly where it is at the moment then., :D

I've put in my own cabling to it from the main distribution box in the attic where it enters the house already (years ago). :D

Looking at it I think wired in access points would be the easiest option yes? as I have walking height access to the attic which covers the whole length of the house.

Do OcUK do them :D and can my current NETGEAR router be "expanded" with 2 access points?
