Hi all, i have a 360 plugged into my dell 2407. Looks great, works great. I use the official vga cable and via an adaptor that came with my 2.1 speakers, i'm able to plug the 3.5mm male jack from my speakers into the vga cable. However, this means taking the 3.5mm speaker jack out of my sound card, and obviously having to replace it when i want to use the pc again properly.

Now, i bought an adaptor with one female and two male 3.5mm connections, thinking i would plug the speaker jack into the female and then plug the male ones into a) the 360 and b) my x-fi. However, when i do this, the sound is extremely crackly. (Is it possible i got a duff adaptor cable?).

What am i missing here? It's a pain having to climb up on my desk and fiddle around with the cables all the time. Any help gratefully received.

thanks - all my connectors are gold though (oooh aren't i posh ;) ) - however, if you tell me what it's called in the windows audio control i could un mute it and then just plug the cable into all of them until i get the right one. using vista btw

start > all programs > entertainment > accessories > volume control.

make sure line in is not muted - and you have the volume set appropriately.

edit: gold connectors do nowt lol but you can buy yourself a gold version of the above adaptor in a well known high street electrical shop for £2.49 ish

edit 2 - sorry dont have vista but you should be following a similar path anyway :)

Be thankful you didn't kill your PC's sound card or 360. those adapters are for splitting an output not merging two inputs.

edit: they really should put a warning on the packets, I've heard this several times now and nearly did it myself before I found an article warning about this and showing how to make a simple circuit to do so, having the soldering skills of a monkey I bought a 3 way audio switch box instead.

eeek! I guess i was lucky then! I don't really know that much about sound stuff, but it seemed to make sense, at least in the physical sense, that the adaptor would would. Ah well.
