Please excuse stupid question, but am new to the network side of computing.

Currently in the house where i live, we have a Sky 4 wireles router (inc 4 ports) upstairs which has 3 computers running off it. Downstairs we have a PS3 and also a HTPC.

We are having major problems with wireless, so want to go wired for all.

Is it possible to just buy another 4 port hub and stick this downstairs with HTPC and PS3 going in and then cable that up to the last port on the Sky router?

Many thanks

Paul

Yes this is possible. You'll need an uplink port on either the sky router or the new hub or hope that the boxes are auto-sensing and can do all that shenanigans for you.

Any modern switch or router will be able to uplink on all of it's ports with full auto-negotiation. Shouldn't be an issue.

Edit: Ah..beaten to it by KC :p

Lower performance and if his upstairs and downstairs are on different rings it won't work anyhow (unlikely, I guess).

Personally not a big fan of the homeplug things unless you really don't make heavy use of the network (with a htpc, that seems unlikely).
