Right well, need some help here..

My GF has had AOL internet for years and has an oooold pc... using a USB wired modem, which has no ethernet sockets. She is getting a new laptop around xmas time, and wishes to use wireless around the house.

Now, ive looked on a few sites and cant find anything that seems to be a USB wireless access point..is there something that im missing or are they hard to come by?

Would it be possible for AOL to come and replace the modem for an ethernet one instead of USB so i can use a normal wireless access point?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Not sure if they still do it but if you upgrade to Platinum for AOL they should give a wireless router, other than that you would need to buy 1 which is unlocked (cheapo) or get something like the netgears?

You could always buy a USB Wifi Adapter for the old PC and then use an adhoc wireless network.

The disadvantage is that the PC would have to be left on when you want to use the net on the laptop.

Sounds like a good idea, thanks guys for the replies.

checked out AOLs site.. seems that when you buy a silver broadband package you get a wireless router with it.. now, my GF has the gold one already but doesnt download anything really, so she will downgrade to silver... do you think she will still get the router?

If it were me, I would buy a Netgear DG834G ADSL Wireless Router and a PCI Network card. Bung the network card in the pc and connect into the router with the cable, and use the laptop with wireless.
